Red Lion Area School District

First Capital Engineering has completed the Red Lion Area School District’s Athletic Fields Concept/Improvement Plan and Specifications. FCE’s team of designers, surveyors and planners first prepared a feasibility study of the existing athletic facilities in the school district and performed land surveying services to determine the topography, utilities, etc. First Capital Engineering recommended that the school district convert the exiting natural grass field at Horn Field to synthetic turf to create the premier outdoor high school athletic venue in York County. FCE evaluated several different types of synthetic turf from multiple manufacturers and provided the school district with our recommendation.

Upon completion of the feasibility study, First Capital Engineering began the process of designing the field to serve football, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, and field hockey within the many constraints present when modifying an existing facility. This project required the use of innovative stormwater management techniques in order to meet the requirements of the necessary approval agencies.

Additionally, the project included the design of two new soccer fields as well as improvements for the school district’s softball field which involved minor regrading and modifications to the field layout, as well as the addition of a practice field and the construction of concession facilities and dugouts for the softball field. Our team obtained the necessary municipal approvals for land development, and acquired the permits for stormwater management from the municipalities, the York County Conservation District and the PA Department of Environmental Protection.

First Capital Engineering also prepared cost estimates, bid documents, drawings, details and project manual specifications for the project, which was bid in March 2011. FCE worked with the contractor to ensure that construction was completed on schedule before the first home football game in early September 2011. The softball field and the soccer fields were completed in late fall 2011. FCE provided inspection services throughout the project to ensure a quality finished product.
